As Geographers at Stone Lodge School, you will develop a deep understanding of the world which surrounds you, knowing where places are, and how and why they are changing. You will consider the impacts of these changes, and how natural processes pose both opportunities and challenges for humans.

Throughout your development as a Geographer there are a set of consistent tools and methods you will utilise to solidify your understanding and ensure that knowledge is embedded in your long-term memory. We believe strongly that recall and retrieval, revisiting, relearning, and applying knowledge will help you do this.

Developing and using the skills and knowledge from Key Stage 3, students will follow the AQA Geography GCSE on a two-year journey to deepen their understanding of Place, Process, Patterns and Solutions.

They will develop fieldwork skills which will enable them to pursue Geography at A Level and beyond, and encourage the use of data, Maths skills, and investigative techniques which are transferable to many careers.

Advice For Parents & Carers

Geography is everything and everywhere. Geographers are employed in every industry, every career, and are able to adapt to any opportunity. From advertising to logistics, from construction to the armed forces, people versed in the key skills and understanding of Geography are valuable employees. Developing a sense of place, of patterns that exist, of the processes that drive them, and coming up with inventive, sustainable solutions are what Geography is all about.

One of the best pieces of advice for parents/carers, and learning for students, is to watch the news at least once a week. Learn to pick out and discuss the geography within it; trade deals, conflicts, disasters, employment changes, economic changes, all of them play into an understanding of our world and the richness of our experience.
